Year 8 Learning

Students continue to study both Dance and Drama in Year 8. Students have one lesson a fortnight. Students rotate between subjects at three points during the year: (approximately) October half term, Christmas and Easter.

  • Perform and appreciate performances in the style of physical theatre
Spring/Summer Term Dance
Contemporary Dance
  • Analyse Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man
  • Learn repertoire from The Car Man
  • Explore and create content that communicates meaning
  • Develop content using a range of dynamic qualities, spatial designs and dance relationships
Drama
Devising Theatre
  • Learn steps to take when devising a performance
  • Explore dramatic techniques: tableaux, slow motion, passing the focus and thought tracking
  • Explore how to use improvisation to develop creative performance ideas
  • Develop performance using a range of techniques

Autumn Term

What you will be able to do at the end of this term:

  • Work effectively with others to explore and create content
  • Demonstrate some awareness of the dance style in action, dynamic, spatial and relationship content selection
  • Perform with fluency, accuracy, control and energy
  • Work honestly and respectfully with others to combine ideas and create content.
  • Demonstrate some awareness of themes that affect character’s relationships
  • Show some concentration in a performance, staying in role for at least 35 seconds
Spring/Summer Term

What you will be able to do at the end of this term:

  • Perform repertoire with fluency, accuracy, control, energy and stamina
  • Use actions, dynamics and space to suggest meaning
  • Use a range of spatial designs and dance relationships
  • Explore multiple ideas in rehearsals that link to briefs
  • Show characters through selecting 3 physical and vocal skills
  • Show concentration in a performance, staying in role for at least 45 seconds
  • Use 2 dramatic techniques in a performance to help show the purpose.
  • Devise scripted through improvisation
