This qualification allows students to explore the exciting world of hair and beauty and the environment in which its industries operate, developing key employment skills that can be transferred over a variety of careers. Students will look back in time to explore changing trends and developments within the hair and beauty sector, allowing them to appreciate excellence and beauty and the importance of attention to detail in their work. Students find out how science is used to create products, encouraging them to reflect how they can impact services on the hair, skin and nails. Students will understand why we create images for business use, and use their own creativity to produce designs that can enhance and build a business further.

Students will study how hair and beauty has developed from ancient times to the present day and develop hair styling, make-up and manicure technical skills to produce their own photographic image. Whilst working in a commercial environment students will develop their key employment and communication skills.

This qualification has three units: Exploring the world of hair and beauty, Science of hair and beauty, Design in the hair and beauty sector.

GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry, Business Studies, Computer Science and Graphic Design will complement this qualification.
